Background

The ccTLD for Cayman Islands is .ky, managed by the Information and Communications Technology Authority (ICTA). They are an independent authority, responsible for Telecommunications, Broadcasting and radio. They also have many responsibilities under the Electronic Transactions Law 2000.

The registration of a .ky domain name is limited to residents within the Cayman Islands and a local address and phone number must be provided in registration. Any company requiring a domain name must be registered in the Cayman Islands. A contact or local agent cannot be used if you are overseas.

There are various sub-domains which are available beneath the ccTLD .ky. Proof to show that you can register for these domain names must be shown. The sub-domains are as follows:
.edu.ky - Only for education establishments. It is managed by the Permanent Secretary for Education.
.gov.ky - Only for use by Cayman Islands government Departments. It is managed by the Computer Services.

Some rules and criteria must be followed in order to register a domain name under .ky. These are:

  • The only characters that may be used are the Roman Alphabet (a-z).
  • Digits 0-9 can be used.
  • A hyphen (-) is allowed, yet cannot be used at the start or beginning of the domain name. It is also not to be used in the third or fourth place due to the International Domain name's punycode.
  • The domain cannot be used for any pornographic materials, nor may it have any connection with such.
  • The domain cannot be used for any gambling, nor may it have any connection with such.

If your registration is rejected, it may be due to not following any of the rules or criteria. What has been done wrong will be sent via the email address given with the application. If approved, and email will also be sent, including the password used to edit the domain. Most emails will be sent within one working day, occasionally two. Data of approved domain names are submitted into the master database at midnight on the day of approval.

Background

.vc is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Registrations are available worldwide and not restricted to use within Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The domain has been running since 1991 and is run by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Science, Technology and Industry.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines covers 150 square-miles in the Caribbean and consists of a group of several small islands. St Vincent is the largest of the islands and the Grenadines are a group of smaller islands that stretch south towards Grenada.

.vc domains must be between 2 and 63 characters, not including extensions and must not start with a hyphen. Registrations are not compatible with IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names). Registrations are available for 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 year periods.

.be is the Internet top level country code domain name (ccTLD) for Belgium in northwestern Europe. It is the founding member of the European Union and the international organisation of NATO and its population has been counted to be roughly 10,419,000 people, with a GPD of $316.2 billion. It's main languages are Dutch, French and German. The registration for the .be domain name is made directly at a second-level and is contracted on a first-come-first-serve basis, and there are no restrictions placed on who can register.

The .be domain name is operated and sponsored by DNS Belgium and has done so since 2000 and have managed to receive over 470,000 registrations since 2005. The domain name was introduced in 1988 and before the delegation to DNS Belgium .be was operated by Pierre Verbaeten of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. .vi is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The ".vi" domain space is managed and maintained by the VI Registry.

Second level domains under the ccTLD ".vi" will be delegated only to businesses physically operating within the Virgin Islands, or to residents of the Virgin Islands.

In order to be successful when registering a second level domain please note the following bullet points:

The VI REGISTRY is not proactive in acting as arbiter, but will supply all known contact details for a given Domain Name to a third party where a domain name dispute is alleged.

Background

The ccTLD for Denmark, an abbreviation for Internet Country Code Top-Level Domain, is .dk. It is managed by the DK-Hostmaster who, though there are no restrictions, need to approve the domain name registered for. If a Name Server needs to be tested, 500 Danish Krona plus VAT will be charged. This can be important seeing as if there is no approved or functioning name servers attached to the domain name, it may be deleted by the Danish Registry. They must be set up in advance and approved.

Once registered, an e-mail will be sent which will tell of the instructions on how to activate the domain name. There are Three Months from the date of registration in which you can activate the domain name, but if you wait over this time it will be deleted by the Danish Registry. You can register directly under .dk and the domain names are available under a 'first come, first served' basis. They can be registered from 1-3 years, or 5 years.

From 2007, a new rule was applied to domain names which are registered through DK Hostmaster. This was a suspension rule and is for the event of typo squatting. This refers to when a domain name is registered with an error, perhaps when a character or two is changed. If the domain name is familiar and already existing, it won't be allowed.
