.bb is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Barbados. In 1991, the University of Puerto Rico received the delegation for the Barbados top-level domain. In 1996 the delegation was moved from the University to the company Cable and Wireless BET.
In 2001 both Cable and Wireless and the government of Barbados signed a memorandum of understanding. This agreement allowed Cable and wireless to continue administration of the Barbados ccTLD until the government could find a suitable alternative.
The Barbados government subsequently wrote to IANA requesting re-delegation of the domain in April 2007. IANA accepted the proposal and officially changed the delegation from Cable and Wireless to the government's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Development. The Telecoms unit of the government of Barbados has been running the domain since November 2007. The Telecoms unit is running the domain as a "semi-restricted" domain, intending it for use predominantly within the country.
To be eligible to register a Barbados domain name you must be either a resident or legally allowed to live in the country. If you run a company and wish to register a .bb domain, the company must be registered and operating in Barbados.
The domain should consist of no more than twenty-six characters. It may consist of letters a â€" z from the Standard English alphabet and can use figures 0 â€" 9 as well as hyphens.
